The mural is located on the lower level of the Institute for Family Health’s Kingston Family Center in the waiting room of the Pediatrics Department. 1 Family Practice Drive, Kingston, NY.
Broadway Boogie Woogie Reimagined was commissioned by Institute of Family Health (IFH) in 2022. IFH is a New York based, non-profit healthcare organization. The mission of the Institute for Family Health is to provide high quality, patient-centered primary health care in communities historically neglected due to racism and poverty, regardless of patients’ ability to pay.
Wolkowicz worked with the team at IFH to reimagine the spaces in the Pediatrics Department to be more active, bright, welcoming and engaging for children of all ages. She responded to the shapes inside of the Pediatrics wing, as well as outside in the urban landscape, picking up on the colors used throughout the exam rooms to bring energy, fun, rhythmic movement and a sense of discovery into the space. Through forms that are both abstract and recognizable, the piece integrated into the waiting room of the department refer to cityscape, modern art, and early childhood learning all at once.
